Vishakhapatnam Airport during the Cyclone (HUDHUD) in 2014

Alcox did the turkey job for the Space Frame structure at the Visakhapatnam airport which is iconic in terms of  Architectural  structures design Alcox proposed and completed international standard airport structure as per the requirement of AP Government  with well known Stainless steel Space frame companies in India

Hudhud:

Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Hudhud was a strong tropical cyclone that caused extensive damage and loss of life in eastern India. Visakhapatnam Airport is Lind of curved space frame is located 7Km from the city center this airport is the second busiest in Andhra Pradesh and runs domestic services to the major Indian. Cyclone Hudhud has made landfall near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh carried out a massive evacuation exercise .The cyclone hit Vizag at 195 kmph with max gust of 260 kmph.

Effects of hudhud:

Hudhud caused extensive damage to the city of Visakhapatnam and the neighbouring districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam of Andhra Pradesh. Damages were estimated to be Rs. 21908 crore (US$3.4 billion) by the Andhra state government. At least 124 deaths have been confirmed, a majority of them from Andhra Pradesh and Nepal, with the latter experiencing an avalanche due to the cyclone.

The Alcox Space Structure:

Even though the structure was designed for 180 m/s as per IS 800, it was able to withstand the Hudhud. This was largely possible due to the strict quality control and precision engineering of the Alcox Space structure. The company does not believe in subcontracting and does complete design, fabrication and erection in house and indigenously which leads to good coordination thus timely completion along with highest quality standards. we are the only best space frame manufacturer in India.

The structure was later checked by engineers from Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. After approval from IIT Chennai, sheets were reinstalled on the system and the airport functions till date.
